Briarpatch Magazine presents:

The Shock Doctrine: The Rise Of Disaster Capitalism

A public lecture by author Naomi Klein

Education Auditorium, University Of Regina
Tuesday, Sept 23 7:30 pm

In an era of growing climatic, economic, and geopolitical instability, Naomi Klein’s analysis of the rise of neo-liberalism and the political uses to which disasters are put is useful and timely indeed. As William S. Kowinski of The San Francisco Chronicle has said, “Klein may well have revealed the master narrative of our time.”

This event will provide a venue for discussing and debating Klein’s ideas, for introducing them to a new generation of activists, and for connecting ideas to action.

Naomi Klein is an award-winning journalist and syndicated columnist and author of the international and New York Times bestsellers The Shock Doctrine: The Rise of Disaster Capitalism and No Logo.
This event is co-sponsored by the Regina Public Interest Research Group, the Social Policy Research Unit, Saskatchewan Council for International Cooperation, Prairie Dog Magazine, the Canadian Centre for Policy Alternatives-Saskatchewan, and the Regina & District Labour Council.

Important Derrick Jensen Update :

Due to circumstances beyond our control, and the control of Derrick, the Saskatchewan speaking tour has been cancelled.  However, Derrick will be appearing over the web on Thursday at the same time and place in Regina for a Q&A.  The event will be free of charge, and everyone is welcome to attend.

Jensen is the author of arguably some of the most important books of our time.  These titles include A Language Older Than Words, The Culture of Make Believe, Walking on Water: Reading, Writing and Revolution, Endgame: The Problem of Civilization (Vol 1 & 2).

Jensen's work covers an array of topics including environmental destruction, education, animal rights, technology and surveillance.  What Jensen does incredibly well is tie these topics together through a broader analysis of the psychology of Western Civilization, our disconnection from one another and the natural world, and the destruction of the environment, indigenous cultures, and ourselves in the process.
